How to Apply
Greetings Artists! The Carnegie Center for Art and History, the Urban Enterprise Association in New Albany, Indiana and Julie Schweitzer Studios have teamed together to develop an exciting contemporary public art project in celebration of New Albany’s upcoming bicentennial.
If you received an invitation letter, your name was submitted by one of the institutions, museums, colleges, or gallery owners we contacted to suggest candidates that might be interested in participating in this exciting historic event. We are pleased to invite you to submit one or more proposals based on the themes and histories provided on this web-site.
The New Albany Bicentennial Public Art Project is a multi-year, outdoor exhibit of twenty temporary works of art interpreting New Albany’s diverse history and heritage. Beginning in the spring of 2010, five temporary works of art will be installed in highly visible locations throughout downtown New Albany, Indiana. Each subsequent year, five new temporary works of art will be unveiled, culminating in 2013 with the Bicentennial Commemoration.
A panel of professionals from local and regional arts organizations will review all the submitted proposals for this project. The selection process relies heavily on guidelines governing the aesthetic and historical appropriateness of the work of art. We are eager to include diverse and new media, however, the integrity and craftsmanship of the work is crucial as each piece will be on display outdoors for an entire year.
All of the chosen artists or groups will be given an honorarium for their participation. This project is an exciting opportunity to present history through contemporary art and we hope you will consider submitting a proposal.
