About the Partnership
This project is directed by Julie Schweitzer Studios, Inc. and made possible through a partnership between the Carnegie Center for Art and History and the New Albany Urban Enterprise Association (NAUEA).
The project perfectly aligns the mission of the Carnegie to present and interpret our community’s history and the visual arts with the Urban Enterprise Association’s mission to improve New Albany’s urban core, and enhance the downtown area.
May, 2009 ----- The New Albany Bicentennial Public Art Project is a multi-year outdoor exhibition of twenty temporary sculptures that will interpret New Albany’s rich history and heritage.
Beginning in the spring of 2010, five temporary sculptures will be installed in highly visible locations in the downtown historic district. Each subsequent year, five new sculptures will be unveiled, culminating in 2013 with New Albany’s Bicentennial Commemoration.
This website includes historical information, and dossiers for each selected site for viewing online, and are provided to each participating artist to help them inform their work and inspire their creations.
